It is day 5, and today John walks through how to setup and protect your site from the irritating spam we all are likely to get… No… not the Spam in the can, it’s the process of using messaging systems to send unsolicited messages, basically… a bunch of junk… In the backoffice of my blog site, I was able to go to the plugin area and activate the plugin, Akismet. Akismet is a plugin that filters out your comment spam for you, so you can focus on more important things. It was very easy to setup. Though you have the option of paying a subscription, I chose to go with the free version. We all love FREE!
The next thing I needed to do was setup and create my legal pages. Legal troubles can destroy even the largest businesses. This is easily accepted when not only applied to manufacturers, but also providers of digital services are equally vulnerable to lawsuits, copyright infringement, and misuse of their infrastructure. Again setting this up was very easy. John recommends the WP InstaLegalPages Plugin, by BCBiz. For the price minimal price I paid, it will help protect me, my site, readers, and my followers. And the best thing about it, is that I can use it on all my WP sites. This was one of the easiest thing I ever did!
Another thing that was covered today was being GDPR Compliant. GDPR is a regulation that requires businesses to protect the personal data and privacy of EU citizens for transactions that occur within EU member states. And non-compliance could cost companies dearly. Because I will be engaging with readers from the EU, purchasing a GDPR plugin at a minimal price is better than paying lawyer fees. It’s a plugin day today!! It’s better to be safe and protect yourself today, than deal with I should have later on down the road when you are being contacted by legal authorities.
